Abrianna Madden is a Salem, Massachusetts-based jazz singer performing in the Northeast
United States. Paving her way as a first generation college student, she recently graduated from
Salem State University with a B.A in Music.
Born in Killeen, Texas and raised in Robertsdale, Alabama, Madden’s upbringing was a quiet one,
with music coming primarily from the Baptist church she grew up in. Performing in talent
shows throughout elementary school and singing in the local church choir every week provided a
foundational understanding of experiences in group performances. At age 17, music truly took
the front seat in her life while attending the Aspire Program at Berklee College of Music in
Boston, Massachusetts. Being surrounded by highly skilled musicians and experiencing
structured music education for the first time motivated her to dedicate her educational journey to
music.
Madden is currently exploring performance opportunities with fellow musicians she has studied
with, as well as on her own. Throughout her journey at university, she studied voice under the
guidance of Jean Danton. She has participated in masterclasses with the a cappella group
VoxOne and renowned jazz pianist Joel LaRue Smith. In the community, she works with a small
group of fellow jazz musicians in the North Shore area and has performed at events such as the
Wandering Stage in downtown Salem and the annual Salem’s So Sweet Kickoff Event.
Moving forward, Madden intends to further her education through graduate studies in jazz
performance. She intends to continue spreading the sound of jazz and appreciation of the genre
that has held on through generations.
